Some Good Advice.

Super food, super science and nature's pure treatment options can slow down and in some instance even reverse the signs of ageing. Taking good care of your skin right from the start may prove to prevent a number of the key signs such as sun damage, pigmentation, wrinkles and fine lines. There are a number of factors such as sun exposure and pollution that can effect skin ageing and these signs of skin damage usually begin to appear in your 20's, but they can be slowed down if a well-thought out plan is followed.

The Basics at any age:

  • Apply sunscreen every day or a 15-30+ day cream
  • Re-apply the sunscreen every 4 hours or as directed
  • Exercise regularly, 30 mins a day is recommended
  • Eat healthy whole foods and drink plenty of water
  • Start the day with 2 cups of warm water with a 1/4 of a lemon freshly squeezed, to cleanse the liver.

The Extras

In your 20's

  • Daily skin care maintenance including cleanse, tone, balance, moisturise & treat.
  • A broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • Plenty of exercise
  • Essential antioxidants such as herbal tea, mud masks, salt baths and make-up free days.
  • Find out your skin type and plan your skin care regime accordingly
  • Try natural products to treat your skin problems and avoid using chemical solutions that may work to solve the immediate problem, but in the long run may also lead to premature ageing. If you wouldn't eat it then don't put it on your skin.

Your 30's to 40's:

  • Strong sun-protection is essential
  • A good skin care regime that may include microdermabrasion, skin peels, facial exercises, anti-ageing creams, at home and regular salon treatments.
  • Relax and unwind with meditation, yoga, Pilate's or treat your self to a day spa once a month to really rejuvenate.
  • Maintain a balanced weight. This will help to prevent the loss of skin elasticity that occurs with significant weight gain and weight loss.
  • You may consider non-surgical enhancement, but be sure to do your homework. Modern science has it's benefits, but maintenance is costly and the vast majority have not stood the test of time.
  • Get your beauty sleep 8-9 hours a night will work better than any potion.

50's, 60's and beyond:

  • Aside from sunscreen, good anti-ageing products are essential to maintaining healthy, youthful skin.
  • Skin care treatments containing vitamin A and antioxidants work to keep the skin thoroughly moisturised and protected from the effects of harsh elements.
  • Essential fatty acids and maintaining a healthy weight is imperative. This may include keeping a few extra kilos to maintain a healthier appearance. Being under weight at any age is not a good, women who enjoy life and eat well maintain skin fullness and improved skin elasticity.
At the end of thy day, a good skin care regime combined with a broad-spectrum sunscreen is imperative. The extras may not stand a chance against genetics, environmental factors, toxins or poor diet, so look to a healthy lifestyle, a well-balanced diet, regular exercise, sun-protection and remember that aside from chemical treatments and cosmetic enhancement, prevention is better than a cure.
